Getting around Boise and the Treasure Valley is about to get a lot easier!

Whether you download the Umo Mobility app or use the City Go Smartcard, the City Go Wallet that powers both options is your key to paying for transit fares and services that get you to all the places you want to go.

When the City Go Wallet is live later this winter, you can load money - or stored value - into your digital wallet or onto your smartcard through the app, online, or at a Customer Service window. Once there is stored value on your app or card, all you have to do is scan or tap your way to transportation options that work best for you and your commute.

Ease of Use, Broader Mobility Options

The Umo Mobility app makes public transportation easier for everyone to use.

In addition to paying for transit fares and services, transit riders, commuters, and visitors can also use the array of in-app services within the Umo Mobility app. Users can plan trips with trip planner, hail rides using Lyft or Uber, and, eventually, earn points and rewards redeemable for transit passes, local restaurants, and more.

Additionally, users can pair City Go Smartcards with their account in the Umo Mobility app, making it simple to switch between the app or the card for buses, shuttles, and other transit modes - such as vanpool and bikeshare - in the near future.

No-Fuss Fare Capping

Fare capping is another new feature coming to public transit through the app and smartcard on all Valley Regional Transit buses!

Fare capping helps ensure passengers never pay more per day or month than the maximum amount for all-day or month-long passes, making the bus an even more affordable option.

It works seamlessly, too! Once the app or card is loaded with stored value, the Umo Mobility system will keep track of each user's daily and monthly fares as users ride the bus. When a passenger reaches either the daily or monthly cap amounts, the system will then “cap” the account, making it so users won’t have to pay for any additional rides that day or for the rest of the month. Who knows?! You may never need a paper pass again.

What’s Next?

The Umo Mobility App and City Go Smartcard will soft launch in early October of this year. As part of the soft launch, City Go and Valley Regional Transit will test the functionality of the City Go Wallet for both the app and the smartcard with select transportation partners. During this time, additional transportation modes, such as vanpool, may also be integrated into the app.

By early January 2022, both the app and the smartcard will be publicly available for everyone to use. To help get the word out about these exciting changes to public transportation in Boise, City Go will also launch a multi-month campaign aimed at promoting the new app and smartcard within the community and with City Go member organizations.
