What does “sustainable transportation” mean to your organization?

Almost 700 of Clearwater Analytics’ team members are based out of our downtown Boise office, and we expect that number to grow. At Clearwater, sustainable transportation means providing diverse and flexible transportation options that fit the variety of needs across our employee base now and in the future. For example, we have some employees that live over 30 miles away from the office and need affordable parking while others want to bike to work. We have also recently implemented a hybrid working model where most of our employees will be in the office only two to three days per week – we need a transportation solution that will accommodate this. Finally, sustainable transportation means that Clearwater and our employees do their part to support more environmentally friendly ways of commuting to work. For those that bike to work, carpool, and/or take the bus to work, we want to incentivize and make it easy for them.

As a company, we also believe in establishing and investing in partnerships. We partnered with City Go in January 2020 to provide more transportation options to our team in the Treasure Valley and support our plans for the future. City Go has been a great, high-value program for us. Our employees benefit from this program, including reduced fees for parking, reduced fees for the bus, carpooling options, and bike lockers.

What inspires and drives your organization’s work on sustainable transportation?

Sustainability is one of three priorities that our corporate social responsibility program – Clearwater Cares – is focused on. These three priorities were based on what our employees wanted us to focus on as a company. There is more we can do as a company around preserving our planet and its natural resources, but we want to be a force for good in the Treasure Valley, the markets we serve, and the world.

And frankly, our clients ask and expect that as a company we adopt more sustainable ways of operating. It is becoming a table stake to getting and keeping business versus a “nice to have.” If we want to compete, we must demonstrate that we are socially and environmentally responsible – and it is the right thing to do.

Finally, and one exciting point about Clearwater, is that our product actually helps our clients identify whether their investments support their and their investors’ ESG goals. It is one thing to say as a company we are supporting more socially and environmentally responsible programs, but that we can actually help our clients to invest more responsibly across the trillions of assets processed on our platform each day is very inspiring!

In what ways does your organization promote sustainable transportation options?

There are a few ways that Clearwater supports more sustainable transportation options.

First, we have recently implemented a hybrid working model where employees will be expected to commute and work out of the office only two to three days per week. That will help with traffic and air pollution in the Treasure Valley. Second, the City Go partnership we have supports and enables transportation options around biking, carpooling, and taking the bus. Third, we offer a Clearwater-specific bike locker for employees who choose to ride their bikes to work and we have showers in the office. Finally, we make it easy for our employees to take the bus or ride their bikes. Our building in downtown Boise is located very close to the Boise River Greenbelt and sits atop the Main Street Bus Station.

What transportation initiatives are most exciting to your organization?

As we move to a hybrid working model, we think the most exciting transportation initiative is the carpooling option for our employees. On the two to three days they are in the office, they can park downtown at half the cost. This will be a huge benefit for employees.

Why is your organization’s participation in City Go important?

The City Go partnership has allowed us to provide more affordable and diverse transportation options for employees that commute to our downtown Boise location. With Boise’s growth, parking will likely continue to be an issue, but this program provides a huge improvement from what we had before with minimal investment on our side.

The City Go partnership also encourages and supports more sustainable transportation options, which supports what matters to our employees and clients. We are happy with what’s offered in the City Go arrangement and now we need to do our part to make it more known throughout our organization.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with fellow City Go members?

There are so many benefits of the City Go program. The one piece of advice we have is to make sure you effectively train and actively support your staff to get the most out of their program.
